As this isn't a supported way of running HomeKit, there are going to be several limitations compared to the regular ecosystem. In short, there will be no remote access via the Home app, and no automations in the Home app. This doesn't mean that there will be no way to do these things, but rather than the typical method won't be applicable. You may use the service homekit.reset_accessory with one or more entity IDs to reset accessories whose configuration may have changed. This can be useful when changing a media player’s device class to tv, linking a battery, or whenever Home Assistant adds support for new HomeKit features to existing entities. Play, pause, volume up and volume down should work out of the box depending on the supported_featuresof the entity. I note my other homekit hue bulbs work off the local network, as do my homebridge temperature sensors as expected, so just the video that fails. I used motioneye OS to create an IP camera which I fed into homebridge with an IP camera plug in. So not the same but ultimately homebridge was sharing the camera to HomeKit, and it added fine and worked but only on the local network. Still, affordable DIY Pi cameras are a great option to expand what you currently have in your home or present a good stepping off point for those just getting started in home automation.

To create your camera, start by downloading our provided disk image. For those who like to really tinker, it isn't especially difficult to install HomeBridge yourself. However, we wanted this project to be accessible for anyone, so we've provided our own custom disk image for you to use.
Occasionally the public key for a device pairing will be missing because of pairing failures. Suppose one or more devices show the accessory as unavailable. In that case, it may be necessary to unpair and re-pair the device to ensure the integration has the public key for each paired client. The homekit.unpair service will forcefully remove all pairings and allow re-pairing with the accessory. When setting up HomeKit from the UI, this avoids the sometimes time-consuming process of deleting and create a new instance.

You can't finish the installation unless the Let's Encrypt portion of the install finishes without any errors.
